Jul, born Julien Mari on January 14, 1990, in Marseille, France, is a highly prolific French rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is renowned for his unique blend of French hip-hop, rap, R&B, and urban pop, often incorporating elements of eurodance and hip-house with a distinctive use of auto-tune. Since releasing his first single "Sort le cross volé" in November 2013 and his debut album "Dans ma paranoïa" in February 2014, Jul has maintained an impressive release schedule, often putting out two albums per year, with all of them achieving at least platinum certification. He became the best-selling artist in the history of French rap in February 2020, with over four million albums sold, a figure that rose to 5.5 million by April 2022. His latest album, "La route est longue," was released on December 8, 2023, and quickly achieved gold and then platinum status, marking one of the best starts for a rap album in France for the year. Beyond his recordings, Jul made headlines by lighting the Olympic cauldron in Marseille on May 8, 2024, as the Paris 2024 Olympic flame arrived in France. He is also slated to perform a major concert at the Stade de France on April 26, 2025.
