Babasónicos is an iconic Argentine rock band, formed in the early 1990s, renowned for consistently challenging the status quo in Latin American rock and pioneering new trends within genres like rock argentino, rock in spagnolo, rock latino, and latina alternativa. They are celebrated for their innovative blend of alternative, pop, psychedelic, funk, and experimental rock, often incorporating electronic elements. The band has released 14 studio albums, with seven achieving Gold and Platinum certification across various Latin American countries. They hold the record for the most Premios Gardel wins, the most prestigious music awards in Argentina, and have received numerous accolades including a Latin Grammy and an MTV Latin America Music Award. Their latest studio album, "Trinchera," was released in April 2022, leading to extensive tours across Latin America, the United States, and Europe. Recently, Babasónicos unveiled a new single titled "Advertencia," which is anticipated to be the lead track from an upcoming album, following a period of fan anticipation fueled by promotional phrases appearing in Buenos Aires. The band continues to be active with upcoming endeavors including a performance at Santiago Rocks 2025 in Chile and multiple dates in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in December 2025, as well as a concert in Mexico in August 2025. They were also recognized in the "Conjunto Pop" category at the Premios Konex 2025. Additionally, a documentary titled "El Abstracto de la Música," directed by Julian Lona, chronicles their successful 2023 European tour, concluding with a massive concert in Buenos Aires. In 2024, a 25th-anniversary vinyl reissue of their album "Miami" was released.
