THE ANSWER LIES IN THE BLACK VOID is an atmospheric doom metal project, incorporating elements of gothic metal, drone metal, and sludge metal, blending crushing gravity with folk, ambient, and electronica for a sound that is both soul-crushing and soul-searching. The alchemical collaboration between vocalist Martina Horváth (Thy Catafalque) and composer/multi-instrumentalist Jason Köhnen (Celestial Season, Bong-Ra, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble), the band delves into themes of inner struggle, psychological transformation, and the hidden architecture of the soul. Following their critically praised debut "Forlorn" (2021) and the equally compelling "Thou Shalt" (2023), THE ANSWER LIES IN THE BLACK VOID released their third full-length album, "Transcendental," on September 26, 2025, via Lay Bare Recordings. The album was preceded by singles like "The Summoning" and "Deconstructed". More recently, in April 2026, they released a cover of Massive Attack's 'Angel' as part of Pelagic Records' "The Dungeon Tapes" compilation. The band has also signed with Pelagic Records for their fourth album, which is expected to be released in April 2027.
