The Gasometer Vienna consists of four gasholder houses, originally built between 1896 and 1899 as part of the municipal gas works in Vienna. They were decommissioned in 1984 after the city transitioned to natural gas. Between 1999 and 2001, these protected monuments underwent a major revitalization project by architects Jean Nouvel, Coop Himmelblau, Manfred Wehdorn, and Wilhelm Holzbauer. The structures were transformed into a modern, mixed-use urban complex comprising apartments, offices, a shopping mall, a cinema, student housing, and various event and music facilities, while retaining their historic brick exteriors.
