Mádé Kuti is a Nigerian afrobeat multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performer, carrying on the powerful musical legacy of his grandfather, Fela Kuti, and father, Femi Kuti. Born Ọmọ́rìnmádé Aníkúlápó Kútì in 1995, he was immersed in music from a young age at The New Afrika Shrine, picking up the saxophone at five and touring globally with his father's band. A graduate of London's Trinity Laban Conservatoire, he is proficient in multiple instruments, including saxophone, trumpet, bass, guitar, and piano. His distinctive sound fuses traditional Afrobeat rhythms with jazz, psychedelia, and alternative rock, and his lyrics often address social issues such as corruption, inequality, and police brutality, reflecting his family's commitment to activism. In his latest endeavors, Mádé Kuti released his sophomore album, "Chapter 1: Where Does Happiness Come From?", on July 25, 2025, which includes singles like "I Won't Run Away" and "Life As We Know It." He marked his European headline debut with a performance in Berlin at HKW (Haus der Kulturen der Welt) on October 15, 2025, with his band, The Movement, as part of his album campaign. His 2021 debut album, "For(e)ward," released as part of the "Legacy+" double album with his father, earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album in 2022, a project on which Mádé played every instrument. He continues to perform at various festivals and venues, including a performance at Tanzania's Sauti Za Busara Festival in 2024 and The Shrine End of Year Concert with his father and uncle on December 28, 2025. He has also collaborated with notable artists like Coldplay and PJ Morton.
