Wynona Bleach is a Belfast-based quartet known for their dynamic blend of shoegaze, alt-rock, grunge, and "bubblegrunge" sounds, characterized by ethereal vocals, fuzzed-out guitars, and driving rhythms. The band comprises Melyssa Shannon on vocals, Jonny Woods on guitar and vocals, Carl Gilmore on bass, and James Foy on drums. They have steadily built a reputation since forming in 2018, releasing their critically acclaimed debut album, "Moonsoake," in 2022. This debut was recorded in an abandoned factory in Portugal and garnered significant praise, leading to support slots for acts like Alice in Chains. In their latest endeavors, Wynona Bleach are set to release their highly anticipated sophomore album, "Animal Style," on May 29, 2026, through Fierce Panda Records in the UK and Propeller Sound Recordings in the US. The album's lead single, "Be Positive," was unveiled in January 2026, showcasing their expansive and intense sound with crunching guitars, punchy drums, and commanding vocals. "Animal Style" was recorded in a historic Belfast ballroom and is described as some of their most complete and ambitious work to date. The band has also undertaken extensive tours, including 22 shows across the US, 10 showcases at SXSW 2025, and an invitation to perform at Bob Clearmountain's Apogee Studios in Los Angeles, further cementing their international presence. Their music has received support from BBC Radio 6, BBC Introducing NI, RTÉ 2FM, and KEXP, among other tastemakers.
