Diego El Cigala is a renowned Spanish flamenco vocalist, recognized for his gravelly, expressive voice that masterfully blends flamenco with a diverse array of genres including bolero, flamenco pop, Latin jazz, tango, and son cubano. Born Ramón Jiménez Salazar in Madrid, he is a six-time Latin GRAMMY winner with a GRAMMY nomination for his album "Indestructible". His career soared with the critically acclaimed album "Lágrimas Negras," a groundbreaking collaboration with Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés that fused flamenco with bolero and Cuban son. More recently, El Cigala has continued to explore various musical styles, releasing albums like "Cigala canta a México" and undertaking tours such as the "Obras Maestras" tour in the U.S. and Canada in 2023, showcasing essential romantic Latin American songs and his distinctive flamenco style. In recent news, Diego El Cigala's sentence of two years and one month in prison for continuous abuse against his ex-wife was confirmed by the Provincial Court of Cádiz. This legal development has led to the cancellation of some of his concerts, including one planned for Gijón in January 2025.
