About Deafkids

Noise rock

Deafkids is an experimental d-beat, noise rock, punk, and sludge-metal band hailing from Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, formed in 2010 by guitarist Douglas Leal. Initially a one-man project, the band evolved into a trio with the addition of bassist Marcelo Dos Santos and drummer Mariano de Melo. Known for their distinctive and ever-evolving sound, Deafkids incorporate elements of electronic and experimental avant-garde music, dub techniques, noise, psychedelia, and the hypnotic polyrhythms of native Brazilian and Latin music, all fused with the energetic discharge of punk. Their work has garnered international recognition, leading to releases on labels such as Neurot Recordings and Rapid Eye Records. In recent endeavors, Deafkids released their fifth studio album in 2023. This album featured remixed and remastered versions of three EPs previously released digitally during the pandemic, alongside two exclusive songs created for the "Cyberpunk 2077" original soundtrack. Their music for the game aims to capture the surreal feeling of dystopia and the paradox of survival in contemporary times. They have also been acclaimed by figures like Neurosis' Steve Von Till. The band continues to spread its message through extensive touring across Brazil, Europe, and North America, and by creating new music.
