JAKOB THE LIAR - Danish-born, London-based singer/songwriter Jakob The Liar AKA Jakob Kupferberg knows what it’s like to come by joy the hard way. Deriving his stage alter ego from the titular character of Jurek Becker’s book Jacob The Liar—set in a Jewish ghetto during WWII and later made into a film starring Robin Williams—Kupferberg’s distinct blend of folk, pop and rock encompasses the extremes of the human experience. Having overcome a decade-long health battle that nearly took his life, Jakob knows that his purpose is not only to turn his own story into an evocative soundtrack, but to inspire others struggling with similar misfortunes. They craft their own blend of alternative rock with big guitar riffs, heartfelt lyrics, heavy beats and strong melodies; oozing loads of attitude, self-belief and high-energy. Mix Britpop, Grunge & modern Alt Rock and you'll get a rough idea of what they're about. Influences range from classic 90s bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis to more recent post-hardcore/punk rock underground groups like Teenage Wrist, Basement, Citizen and Title Fight. People think we sound similar to David Bowie, Radiohead, and the sound of black holes forming. We think we sound pretty floaty, so we like to call ourselves 'Spacepop'.
