bookend is a London-based duo blending melancholic lyricism with vibrant, textured beats - music that feels emotive yet never too serious. Friends for almost a decade, Michelle (Brazil) and Masaaki (Japan) first connected through music, and their partnership began when Michelle featured on one of Masaaki's tracks as part of his solo project, Anchorsong. The song became his most successful release to date, inspiring them to create bookend as a separate project. Michelle, a songwriter and poet with a love for reading brings raw, introspective storytelling, while Masaaki, a highly skilled and methodical producer, crafts rich soundscapes that give their music its pulse. They balance melancholy with infectious grooves, often blending Portuguese and English lyrics to reflect the complexities of relationships and modern life.
