In the case of ÄTNA, it is the other way around.They regularly remind us of the vast, unimaginable and their musical visions fuel our curiosity about everything beyond the stratosphere. That’s roughly what the multiverse sounds like. We just can’t prove it yet. It was already clear from their 2020 debut “Made By Desire” that this was no standard German pop. ÄTNA presented themselves as an avant-garde, interdisciplinary duo with a precise feel for catchy hooks, driving rhythms and impressive imagery. After features with Solomun, MEUTE and Marteria as well as collaborations with the NDR Bigband in Hambur’s Elbphilharmonie and the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, there was no longer any doubt about the versatility of the two. Although the look and the concise synth pads seem futuristic and are almost extraterrestrially unique in the local music landscape, the basis of all transcendence in ÄTNA is handcrafted perfection. Inéz and Demian were and are first and foremost first-class musicians, and the same applies to everyone they work with on their productions. After the successful and self-confident “Push Life” from 2022, ÄTNA 2024 present their third album “Lucky Dancer”. Recorded between Spain, southern France and Bali, Inéz and Demian have sensed and captured the pulse of the times like a firefly, transforming it into a throbbing, pulsating work full of presence. On all their albums, ÄTNA refine their visionary utopia in terms of sound and weave their music tightly into the themes, sounds and spheres of their time. Sometimes in minimalistically reduced, sometimes in theatrically exaggerated metaphors, they reflect what it means to experience the now on earth. Despite a growing national and international fan base and appearances at renowned festivals such as SXSW in Austin, picturesque Dresden is still ÄTNA’s base camp. Nevertheless, excursions are essential. Either in the form of travel or as collaborations at the interface between music, art, history, film, theater, fashion, digitality and fantasy. LIE NING deftly moves between the genres of indie, soul and R'n'B, creating moments of timeless pop and emotionally powerful images of dreamy expanse and bitterly serious shape. Their highly acclaimed debut album "utopia", produced by Grammy winner Stephen Fitzmaurice (known for his work with Sam Smith, Alicia Keys and Mary J Blige), was released in April 2023 via Humming Records. Singles such as "error" and "i see you" captured international and domestic playlist placements on Spotify such as GLOW and RADAR GSA. Their headline tour, which followed in May 2023, saw sold-out venues in Berlin and Hamburg and huge crowds at festival appearances at Fusion, Haldern Pop and Appletree Garden. The press response was equally overwhelming: the respected music magazine Musikexpress called them the "artist of the hour", while Vogue celebrated them as "their new favorite artist from Berlin". In November 2024, LIE NING dropped their "sweatshop" EP and made history as the first German musician selected for Spotify's GLOW Spotlight Artist.
