William Jack

About the artist

William Jack is an Australian multi-style cellist, guitarist, and composer, based in London, known for his unique approach to the cello that blends jazz guitar influences with folk, bluegrass, and non-Western musical styles. He has gained recognition for his "Cellopickin'" technique, using a plectrum to create an unconventional sound. In his latest endeavors, Jack launched his second solo album, "This Old Cello Box, Vol. 2," on September 13, 2024. He has been touring the album since August 2024, with performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, and scheduled dates in Ireland, Central Europe, and a UK leg in November. Jack also performed his solo compositions from the "This Old Cello Box" collection live on BBC Radio 3 at the Edinburgh Fringe and was selected as a 'New Folk' songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He received the best music award at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe. He is also currently collaborating with British Franco-Chinese violinist Laure Chan. An upcoming show is scheduled for November 22, 2025, in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
