Wax Jaw is a Philadelphia-based five-piece band that blends dynamic and fast-paced punk, new wave, surf rock, and indie rock with emotionally charged lyrics. Fronted by Shane Morgan, a queer trans masculine individual, their music often reflects his lived experiences, exploring themes of addiction, sexual liberation, and self-worth. The band is known for their high-energy live shows designed to make audiences move. Wax Jaw released their debut EP, "Between the Teeth," in October 2023. Their debut album, "It Takes Guts!", was released on October 10, 2025, via Born Loser Records. Recent endeavors include the release of singles such as "Lace Up" (August 13, 2025), "Looking Back" (September 18, 2025), and "Boy's Life" (October 18, 2024). The band has gained recognition for their captivating performances and unique sound, drawing comparisons to acts like Shannon and the Clams, Suicidal Tendencies, and Together Pangea, as well as evoking echoes of Berlin, The Go-Go's, and The Breeders. They have sold out shows across the U.S. and Canada and have played alongside notable acts in the indie and punk scenes.
