Vulva Voce is a genre-defying, all-female string quartet based in the UK, known for blending folk, contemporary classical, jazz, improvisation, and even techno influences in their performances. Composed of violinists Julia Sandros-Alper and Georgina MacDonell Finlayson, violist Nadia Eskandari, and cellist Lucy McLuckie, the ensemble aims to amplify women's voices by exclusively performing works by women and underrepresented artists, challenging traditional classical music conventions. In recent endeavors, Vulva Voce won Nonclassical's Battle of the Bands in 2023 and embarked on a sustainable European tour that year. They released their debut single 'Smeòrach Chlann Dòmhnaill' in August 2023 and followed up with their second single, "Weaver's Key," in March 2024. The quartet performed at major festivals including SXSW and Glastonbury in 2024. They also participated in "Let HER MUSIC Play" in February 2024, contributing to a world record for the longest acoustic music live-streamed concert featuring music by women and non-binary people. Their upcoming debut EP 'Maddalena', inspired by Renaissance composer Maddalena Casulana, combines her madrigals with original pieces that incorporate jazz, folk, pop, and techno, with a launch gig planned for March 2025 in Manchester and an open call for remixes by female-identifying and non-binary artists. Vulva Voce is also slated to appear at SXSW London in 2025.
