Indigenous death doom from Pomona, California. Tzompantli is Nahuatl for “skull rack” which was used for the public display of human skulls, typically those of war captives or other sacrificial victims. Founded as a one-man project by Brian Ortiz aka Huey Tlakamayeh (Obsidian Bear) or Bigg o))), the project has grown into a full band and tribal collective. With members from various other death metal bands from around Los Angeles and Southern California(Teeth, Civerous, Xibalba) to help achieve a memorable live performance. Tzompantli embodies indigenous ritualism and spirituality in their sound and style. With themes of indigenous history and a brutal massive sound that incorporates native indigenous folk instruments. It makes for a truly special experience and atmosphere for any listener.
