British musician, producer and composer born on January 11, 1971 in Henley-on-Thames, Tom Rowlands is best known as one of the two founding members of electronic duo The Chemical Brothers, alongside Ed Simons. He began his musical career in the early 1990s, after studying art history at Manchester University, where he met Simons. Together, they began mixing under the name The Dust Brothers, before finally adopting the name The Chemical Brothers in 1995. Tom Rowlands is considered the group's principal sound architect, renowned for his innovative approach to electronic production, incorporating elements of big beat, techno, psychedelic rock and industrial music. The duo enjoyed critical and commercial success from their debut album Exit Planet Dust (1995), followed by landmark records such as Dig Your Own Hole (1997), Surrender (1999), Come with Us (2002), Push the Button (2005), We Are the Night (2007), Further (2010), Born in the Echoes (2015), No Geography (2019) and For That Beautiful Feeling (2023). Alongside his activities with the band, Tom Rowlands has also worked on film scores, notably with director Joe Wright for Hanna (2011), and collaborated with various artists such as Beth Orton, Noel Gallagher and Q-Tip. A multi-instrumentalist with a passion for analog sounds, he is renowned for his creative use of vintage synthesizers and drum machines, as well as for his ability to create dense, hypnotic and cinematic sound textures. Tom Rowlands has established himself as a central figure in contemporary British electronic music, combining innovation, rave energy and melodic flair in a body of work as rich as it is enduring. Under his own name, he released the single "Through Me" (2013) and composed the soundtrack for the series Mussolini - Son of the Century (2025). The same year saw the release of his second single "We Are Nothing".
