The Undercover Hippy, fronted by singer-songwriter Billy Rowan, is a Bristol-based artist whose music fuses politically driven acoustic roots reggae folk-hop with elements of drum and bass, hip-hop, and soulful vocals. His sound is known for intelligent, provocative lyrics, infectious rhythms, and a humorous, feel-good groove, often drawing comparisons to artists like Steel Pulse, Kate Tempest, and The Sleaford Mods. The band has been a regular at festivals such as Glastonbury and Boomtown since 2008 and undertakes extensive tours across the UK and Europe. In April 2023, The Undercover Hippy released their fourth album, "Not Paying Attention," which was also referred to as "Poor Little England," featuring the single "Hey Boy" from February 2023. This album delves into themes of phone dependency, mental health, and the societal impact of the pandemic and politics. The artist is currently undertaking "The Last Stand: UK Tour 2025," aimed at addressing contemporary global challenges through their music, and performed at Boomtown 2025. They also have upcoming tour dates in October 2025 in the UK.
