The Scratch formed in 2016 as a kitchen jam and busking project, born from a decade-long metal background and a growing love for folk and Irish traditional music. Armed with acoustic guitars and a cajon, they hit the streets of Dublin and beyond, crafting a raw, high-energy sound that quickly turned heads. A viral video from the Rory Gallagher Festival in 2017 sparked wider attention, leading to a headline show at Whelan’s and their first music video. Their debut album Couldn’t Give A Rats (2020) was praised as one of Ireland’s boldest debuts, earning them support slots with Dropkick Murphys and festival appearances across Europe. Produced by James Vincent McMorrow, their second album Mind Yourself (2023) pushed boundaries, fusing humour, folk, and metal into a sound all their own. It hit #1 on the Irish Vinyl Charts, #3 on the IRMA Album Chart, and was nominated for Irish Album of the Year at the Choice Music Prize. They also made a memorable appearance on The Late Late Show. From spontaneous busking to sold-out shows, The Scratch’s rise has been anything but ordinary. In 2025, they supported Dermot Kennedy at MISNEACH in Sydney, tore up Download Festival, and had their music featured in Netflix’s House of Guinness. The Scratch is Conor Dockery, Cathal McKenna, Daniel Lang, and Gary Regan
