The Orchestra (For Now) is an English progressive and art rock band formed in London in early 2023, known for their ambitious and dynamic sound that frequently incorporates a string section. Their music is characterized by intricate arrangements, dramatic shifts in intensity, and a blend of "panicky but melodic" passages that move between whispers and screams, drawing comparisons to artists like Black Country, New Road and Arcade Fire. The seven-piece ensemble consists of Joseph (Joe) Scarisbrick (vocals, keyboards), Neil Thomson (guitar), Bill Bickerstaff (guitar), Lingling Bao-Smith (violin), Millie Kirby (bass), Erin Snape (cello), and Charlie Hancock (drums). In terms of recent endeavors, The Orchestra (For Now) released their debut EP, "Plan 75," on March 28, 2025, which included singles like "Wake Robin," "Skins," and "The Strip." This was followed by their "Plan 76" EP in October 2025, featuring the single "Hattrick." The band is currently set to release a full-length album in 2026. They have gained significant recognition for their live performances, winning the 2024 Green Man Rising competition and playing at festivals such as End of the Road. They also announced a debut UK tour for November 2025, including a London date at the Scala. Their music often explores themes of anxiety and the complexities of modern life, with lyrics that are purposefully elusive and rich in pop culture references.
