The Mary Wallopers are an Irish folk music group from Dundalk, celebrated for their vibrant and often rebellious take on traditional Irish ballads, frequently categorized as Celtic punk or trad punk. They infuse classic folk sounds with a raw, punk energy, utilizing instruments like guitar, banjo, accordion, pipes, whistles, bass, and drums. The band garnered significant attention through their engaging livestreamed performances during the COVID-19 lockdowns. In recent endeavors, The Mary Wallopers released their new single, 'The Juice', in July 2025, which features their signature high-energy folk style. This release followed the departure of founding member Seán McKenna in March 2025, who left the group to pursue other projects. In August 2025, the band's performance at the Victorious Festival in the UK was cut short after they displayed a Palestinian flag on stage, an incident that led to an apology from the festival organizers and a show of solidarity from other bands who subsequently withdrew from the event. The Mary Wallopers maintain a busy touring schedule, with numerous live dates planned across the UK, Ireland, and North America throughout late 2025 and into early 2026. Their second album, 'Irish Rock 'n' Roll', was released in October 2023, following their self-titled debut album in 2022.
