the GazettE live history: visual kei • j-rock
the GazettE is a Japanese visual kei rock band that formed in early 2002 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Known for their blend of aggressive rock elements, alternative metal, and often theatrical visuals, they quickly rose to prominence in the visual kei scene. Their musical style has evolved to incorporate heavy riffs, melodic elements, and sometimes electronic sounds like synthesizers and processed effects, while exploring themes of duality, isolation, and human emotion. The band's current lineup includes Ruki (vocals), Uruha (guitar), and Kai (drums). In recent news, the band faced significant changes: bassist Reita passed away on April 16, 2024. More recently, on March 10, 2026, the GazettE announced the departure of guitarist Aoi. Despite these events, the band has cryptically teased a potential new album titled "THE WINTER".
