Thanda Choir is a vibrant Afro Soul musical group, established in 2023 in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, South Africa, functioning as a community-based organization and NGO. The choir provides a safe and empowering environment for township youth, helping them develop musical talents, leadership skills, and career paths in the arts, with a mission to uplift and inspire through music. Recent endeavors include composing the musical score for the Oscar-nominated short film "The Last Ranger" (as of January 2025) and performing at the Prudential Insurance Gala Dinner in September 2024. The choir gained international acclaim and millions of online views following their July 2025 trip to Paris, France, where they toured with jazz legend Melody Gardot and performed viral street concerts, earning praise from actress Viola Davis. Thanda Choir has also significantly grown its social media presence, accumulating over 800,000 Instagram followers and nearly a million on TikTok as of January 2026. A teaser for an upcoming feature-length documentary film, "The Thanda Choir," was released in December 2025, highlighting their efforts to build a permanent rehearsal home in Khayelitsha. They have also released singles such as "Uthando" (2026), "Motherland" (2026), "Kukud'ekhaya" (2025), and "Ndilimele" (2025).
