About Takuya Nakamura

Jungle

Takuya Nakamura is a Tokyo-born, New York-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and DJ, renowned for his innovative fusion of jazz with electronic genres like jungle, drum & bass, garage, minimal techno, and dub, often dubbed "Cosmic Jungle". He studied jazz under George Russell and became a staple in the vibrant jazz and jungle scene in New York City. Nakamura is a virtuoso trumpet and piano player, skillfully integrating live trumpet improvisation over his high-energy DJ sets and electronic productions. He has collaborated with notable artists including Quincy Jones, David Byrne, and Arto Lindsay, and has been a member of cult bands like Jojo Mayer's Nerve and Cocorosie. In his latest endeavors, Takuya Nakamura continues to push musical boundaries by blending his deep jazz roots with cutting-edge electronic production. He has been touring with Tokio Station, a collective that merges early '90s jungle with jazz improvisation to create immersive live performances. Nakamura is also presenting his album "Pleasure Seekers" as a visceral live show alongside NYC electronic drummer Currency Audio, drawing on rhythmic languages of jungle, juke, and footwork. He has several upcoming festival appearances, including Horst Festival in Belgium (May 2026) and AVA Festival in Belfast (May 2026). Additionally, he maintains an ongoing show with Brooklyn's The Lot Radio, exploring his diverse influences and musical outputs, with recent sessions in April 2026. His "Piano Warp" project also features piano with live electric manipulation, multimedia dance, and interacting visuals.
