Subcarpați is a Romanian hip-hop band formed in 2010 by MC Bean (Alexe Marius Andrei), known for their unique "underground folklore" style. They blend traditional Romanian folk music and cultural motifs with contemporary electronic beats, hip-hop, dub, and trip-hop, aiming to reintroduce Romanian heritage to a younger generation. The British newspaper The Guardian described their sound as "an explosive mixture of old and new". The band recently released their new album, "Hora Exactă," in May 2026, which was celebrated with an open-air concert at Arenele Romane in Bucharest. Subcarpați is also actively touring, with a European tour planned for 2026, including stops in Brussels (February 2026), Paris (March 2026), Amsterdam (March 2026), Munich (March 2026), Coventry (March 2026), and London (March 2026). They have numerous upcoming concerts in Romania during May and June 2026, including performances at Obciniada Festival, Shakespeare Festival, and Focus in the Park. They also recently released the official video for "Pankareala 2" in April 2024.
