Sonido Gallo Negro is a Mexican band from Mexico City that masterfully blends electrocumbia, chicha, cumbia sonidera, and traditional cumbia with psychedelic, surf, and rock influences, creating a unique sound often described as tropical psychedelic music. The band, known for its use of guitars, eccentric organs, analog synthesizers, and theremin, often accompanies its live performances with hypnotic visuals by Dr. Alderete. Having released their album *Paganismo* in November 2022, they have plans for a deluxe edition which will include a collaboration with Joyce Musicolor. In 2023, they collaborated with Grupo Kual on the track "Cumbia Triste," and they continue to keep sonidero spaces alive, even bringing them to iconic music halls around Mexico City. Sonido Gallo Negro also released new singles in 2024, including "Pañuelo De Seda" in August and "Cumbia Disco Energy." They continue to tour extensively, with past performances at major festivals and aspirations for more U.S. dates and an appearance scheduled for Viru Folk in 2025. The band consistently aims to reinvent itself, embracing constant evolution in their music.
