Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, leads his father's former band Egypt 80, dedicating his life to preserving and expanding his father's political and musical legacy. Seun joined the band formally before he was 12 and took over as its head after Fela's death in 1997. In May 2023, Seun Kuti was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Lagos. In May 2025, he narrowly escaped a stray bullet in his hotel room in the United States. Most recently, in August 2025, he has spoken out against the Dangote Group after an accident involving one of their trucks resulted in the amputation of a woman's leg.
