About the artist

Pop

Salty Licorice is the moniker of Soha Akile, a Swedish-Palestinian/Iraqi singer-songwriter and producer from Gothenburg. She launched the project anonymously in 2023 to freely experiment with her creative process. Her music blends Arabic melodies with pop, R&B, and electronic influences, creating alternative pop and R&B soundscapes. Inspired by artists such as Caroline Polachek, Imogen Heap, Taylor Swift, Rosalia, FKA Twigs, and Lykke Li, her sound is characterized by synesthesia, where she perceives colors and patterns when creating music. In recent news, Salty Licorice released a new single "North Sea Siren (p.78)" from her upcoming EP "The Sunrise Cried," which draws inspiration from Mata Hari. One of her earlier songs, "Yemanya (p. 19)", went viral on TikTok, amassing over 8.6 million views, and she dedicated the song's proceeds to those affected in Gaza.
