About Permanent (Joy)

Permanent (Joy) is a Liverpool-based indie rock project formed by former members of the band Blondes, including songwriters Alex Davison and Dan Stroud, along with Dave Annis and bassist Noah Roche. They are known for a surreal and moodier blend of indie rock, characterized by a restless, guitar-led sound that incorporates elements of emotional post-punk, alternative, and even jazz-inspired prog, drawing influences from artists like Radiohead and Neutral Milk Hotel. The band officially launched in September 2024, aiming for a darker, more story-driven approach compared to their previous work. Their debut EP, 'Despair Will Make Me A Modern Man', was released in March 2025, featuring singles such as "Josephine", "Aeroplane", and "I Wanna Go Home". More recently, Permanent (Joy) released their single "Role Models" in September 2025, which introduced a more upbeat style. The band has been active on the touring circuit, having supported notable acts like Franz Ferdinand, Inhaler, and Blossoms. They celebrated their EP release with a headline show at Liverpool's Jacaranda Club in March 2025 and were scheduled for a BBC Introducing Merseyside showcase and an appearance at Liverpool Sound City Festival in May 2025. Looking ahead, they have gigs scheduled for August 2026 with bands like The Cheap Thrills and Borderline.
