Named for a Russ Meyer movie, Motorpsycho are a Norwegian band whose music is an amalgam of progressive rock, psychedelia, alternative rock, folk-rock, hard rock, jazz, country, and old-school heavy metal. They emerged in the late '80s but really caught fire with their third album, Demon Box, which spanned two LPs and earned a Norwegian Grammy nomination. Motorpsycho then issued a string of acclaimed albums that chewed through genres with impunity, with highlights arriving via 2001's Phanerothyme and 2009's Child of the Future. After receiving a commission from the Teknisk Museum, Here Be Monsters arrived in 2014. The band issued the double-length The Tower as the first entry in a genre-crossing trilogy in 2017; it also included 2019's The Crucible and 2020's The All Is One. The following year saw the release of the double-length Kingdom of Oblivion, which was considered a return to hard rock, underscored by 2022's Ancient Astronauts.
