Massar Egbari, a pioneering Egyptian rock band formed in 2005, is known for its powerful lyrics and unique fusion of rock, jazz, blues, and oriental music, often categorized as alternative Egyptian music, encompassing elements of Egyptian pop and Arabic hip hop. Their name, translating to "Compulsory Detour," reflects their focus on social and cultural issues, satirizing societal norms and the everyday struggles and aspirations of ordinary people. The band has received multiple accolades, including the Middle East Music Awards (MEMA) and the title of "Artist for Intercultural Dialogue" by UNESCO in 2011. In their latest endeavors, Massar Egbari marked their 20th anniversary with the release of their new album "Mabaatsh Akhaf" in January 2025, their first album since 2022's "Nos El Hagat". A documentary film bearing the same name as the album, directed by Amir El-Shenawy, is also set to depict the band's journey, struggles, dreams, and memories throughout their career. The visual for the album's title track, "Mabaatsh Akhaf," was scheduled for release on February 5, 2025. The band is also touring, with a concert planned in Abu Dhabi on September 12, 2025, and a UK tour in May 2025 to celebrate their new album. In December 2023, Massar Egbari released the single "Rouh El Rouh" to support the Palestinian cause, donating a portion of proceeds from their concerts to Palestinians in Gaza.
