About Marrakech

Marrakech is a Korean indie duo formed in May 2019, consisting of two members: Kim Young-wook (singer and guitarist) and Cho Seong-ha (drummer). The two met while attending the same school and debuted with the single "Floating" in 2019. Although the group's name might suggest it is named after the Moroccan city, it actually derives from a perfume of the same name. Their sound features gently flowing guitar tones, solid drums that form the rhythmic core, and surprisingly heavy bass, creating an aroma-like atmosphere of urban haze. The lyrics drift over this setting like romantic imagery, producing a contrasting harmony. The core of Marrakech’s music is simple and minimalistic, emphasizing clarity through subtractive elements rather than filling space, which is their distinctive style. The restrained use of space and subtraction results in a clean, sophisticated aesthetic. The track "You" from their EP Colors, released on September 16, 2025, entered Melon’s Top 500 chart at number 186 one week after release.
