About MACHUKHA

Black metal

MACHUKHA is a Berlin, Germany-based post-black metal band that infuses elements of dark hardcore and punk into their sound, with additional influences from neo-folk and post-rock. Their name, which translates to "step-mother" in Ukrainian, reflects the heritage of vocalist Natalya, who sings exclusively in her native Ukrainian language. The band's music explores profound themes of resilience, retaining humanity in a harsh world, anguish, pain, and the daily struggle for survival. Their highly anticipated debut album, "Mochari," was released on June 7, 2024, through Consouling Sounds. The album was recorded by Jan Oberg at Hidden Planet Studio and mixed/mastered by Jack Shirley. For "Mochari," MACHUKHA also self-produced three music videos that form a continuous narrative, with Natalya designing and hand-making modernized traditional Ukrainian clothing for the visuals, and guitarist Bláthin directing and utilizing her professional dance background. The lyrics for their single "Bezpliddya," for instance, were penned by Natalya following her experience with debilitating seizures, expressing the profound emotions of living with unexplained illness. Having begun performing live in late 2023, MACHUKHA has been actively touring, including supporting Agriculture, and is scheduled for festival appearances in Summer 2024 at Core Festival and Complexity Festival. Their live shows are noted for their intensity and commitment, with Natalya's vocals conveying genuine anguish.
