Louis Winsberg is a distinguished French guitarist known for his eclectic fusion of jazz with flamenco, Mediterranean, and various ethnic music influences. Born in Marseille in 1963, Winsberg began his musical journey at the age of twelve, learning guitar alongside gypsy friends who would later form the Gipsy Kings. He gained early recognition, winning the first soloist prize at the Concours National de la Défense in 1983, and was a prominent member of the jazz-rock fusion group Sixun. Winsberg is celebrated for his melodic, harmonic, and timbral research, and was among the first French guitarists to utilize the synth guitar. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with an array of notable artists, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mike Stern, and Claude Nougaro. In his latest endeavors, Winsberg continues to be active with several projects and performances. His "Temps Réel" trio, featuring Jean-Luc Di Fraya and Patrice Héral, released an album in 2021 and has performances scheduled throughout 2025. He also has upcoming dates in September and November 2025 for his "1 voix 6 Cordes" project. His acclaimed "Jaleo" project, which fuses jazz with flamenco and Indian music, is set to perform in La Réunion in November 2025. Furthermore, Winsberg will present his new concert project "Talismane" on November 20, 2025, in Saint Rémy de Provence, showcasing a Mediterranean sound adventure with diverse collaborators. His "JALEO FAMILIA" box set, released recently, celebrates 20 years of his "Jaleo" project with three studio albums, a DVD, and a songbook.
