Lord Spikeheart, also known as Martin Kanja, is a Kenyan vocalist, songwriter, and producer prominent in the African metal scene. He is recognized for his unique fusion of genres, blending death metal growls, screeching screams, and gravelly rap verses with elements of grindcore, industrial, experimental electronic music, and techno, often delivered in Kikuyu, Kiswahili, and English. In 2024, Lord Spikeheart released his critically acclaimed debut solo album, "The Adept," a powerful tribute to his great-grandmother, Muthoni wa Kirima, a field marshal in the Mau Mau rebellion. He also founded HAEKALU Records, Africa's first record label dedicated to heavy and dark music genres. Recent endeavors include extensive tours in Europe and the UK throughout 2024, performances at major festivals like Sónar, Primavera Sound, Roadburn, Roskilde, Le Guess Who, Insomnia, Elevate, and the Venice Biennale. He also announced the "REIGN" EP as a follow-up to "The Adept," featuring collaborations with artists such as Brodinski, Musta Jones, and Iggor Cavalera.
