Kelly Moran is a New York-based composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, celebrated for her ambient, experimental, and electroacoustic music. She is particularly known for her innovative use of the prepared piano, a technique pioneered by John Cage, which she fuses with electronic manipulation to create a unique "electro-acoustic hybrid instrument". A classically trained musician, Moran's work often traverses genres including classical, electronic, minimalist, and jazz. Moran signed with Warp Records in 2018, following the critical acclaim of her 2017 album *Bloodroot*, which was recognized by The New York Times as one of the best classical releases of the year. In 2024, she released *Moves in the Field*, an album that explored new directions by incorporating a programmable Disklavier piano, allowing for compositions with "superhuman musical feats". This album was noted as a "redemptive conclusion" following a period of personal challenges. Looking ahead, Moran has announced her new album, *Don't Trust Mirrors*, featuring Bibio, which is scheduled for release on October 1, 2025, via Warp. This album was six years in the making, and she released the single "Echo in the Field" in anticipation of it. She also embarked on a US tour in the fall of 2025, and continues to be active in early 2026, including opening for William Basinski's West Coast tour dates. Moran has also collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Oneohtrix Point Never, FKA Twigs, Yves Tumor, and Margaret Leng Tan.
