Kamal. is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Harlesden, North West London, known for his soulful bedroom pop that blends lush and stripped-down sounds. Born to Caribbean British parents, he began playing piano at age six and later the ukulele, drawing influences from neo-soul icons like Sade, D'Angelo, and Erykah Badu, as well as jazz, classical, and UK rap. His music, which also incorporates elements of contemporary R&B and indie, is characterized by its unguarded and vulnerable approach, featuring relatable lyrics and tender vocals. He released his debut single "smilingdownthephone" in 2019, followed by his breakthrough track "homebody" in 2020, which resonated with many during the onset of the pandemic. In 2021, Kamal. released his critically acclaimed debut EP, "war outside," a project described as both serene and intentional, which earned him an Ivor Novello Rising Star award. He has also been featured on Dave's track "Mercury". As of June 2023, he released the poignant single "People Don't Change" and had recently completed an Asia tour. He had accumulated over 175 million streams and received funding from the PPL Momentum Music Fund to support his touring and fan engagement endeavors. His upcoming endeavors include preparing to release a mixtape.
