About John Stenersen

John Stenersen is a Norwegian composer and master traditional instrumentalist widely recognized for his work with prominent Nordic folk and ambient acts such as Wardruna, Gåte, and Bergtatt. Centered around ancient Scandinavian instruments like the nyckelharpa, moraharpa, and hurdy-gurdy, his music bridges deep-rooted folk heritage with dark, rhythm-driven, and cinematic soundscapes. Expanding on his extensive career as a collaborative studio and touring musician—which includes contributions to Kalandra, Ulver, and the game score for *League of Legends*—Stenersen recently launched a long-awaited solo project under the By Norse label. Marking this new chapter, he released his debut solo single and music video, "Tronsgårdhallingen," featuring a heavy, atmospheric arrangement of a traditional Norwegian folk tune with a live debut performance at the Midgardsblot festival.
