Growing up on the sounds of African drumming and reggae music in the seaside town of Brighton (UK), IYAMAH began to use songwriting at the piano as a way of diary-like expression age thirteen. By sixteen, immersed in the festival culture and vibrancy from dub, jungle and DnB, she started writing top lines for drum and bass producers and DJ’s before deciding to follow her own path as a solo artist and focused on developing a distinct soulful R&B sound, which she describes as “Rootsy Soul”, a combination of all her favourite genres, and a lyrical focus on identity, self-worth and female empowerment. IYAMAH released her first single, Cryptic Love in 2018 and has become one of the UK’s most exciting up and coming artists in the scene.
