Hexvessel is a Finnish band, founded in 2009 by British emigre Mat "Kvohst" McNerney, known for their unique blend of neofolk, psychedelic folk-rock, and ritual folk psychedelia, deeply rooted in Finnish nature, pagan mysticism, and folklore. Their music often explores themes of solitary reflection and personal spiritual transcendence. The band has recently evolved its sound to incorporate elements of atmospheric black metal and doom. Hexvessel released their sixth album, 'Polar Veil,' on September 22, 2023, a work described as a cold, metallic homage to the Sub-Arctic North, blending black metal, ritual folk psychedelia, and doom rock with gothic undertones, created by McNerney in isolation in his log cabin. Their seventh album, 'Nocturne,' was released on June 13, 2025, further showcasing their atmospheric black metal and doom influences.
