Haggard is a German symphonic metal band, founded in 1989, that uniquely blends classical, medieval, and folk music with metal elements. They are known for their elaborate sound, often featuring a large ensemble that can include up to 21 musicians, incorporating instruments like violins, cellos, flutes, oboes, pianos, and harpsichords alongside electric guitars and drums, complemented by both operatic female soprano vocals and male death metal growls. The band's albums frequently explore historical and philosophical themes, such as the lives of Nostradamus and Galileo Galilei. While a new album titled "Grimm" was announced for late 2012, its release has been indefinitely postponed, and the band has been largely inactive regarding new studio material since their 2008 album "Tales of Ithiria," performing only occasional concerts. However, there was a tease on their website in 2023 regarding plans for a new album and touring.
