About Gustavo Santaolalla

Banda sonora

Gustavo Santaolalla is an Argentine composer, record producer, and musician celebrated for his distinctive contributions to "banda sonora" (film scores) and for his minimalist approach to music. He has earned two Academy Awards for Best Original Score for his work on *Brokeback Mountain* (2005) and *Babel* (2006), and is widely recognized for composing the acclaimed music for *The Last of Us* video game series and its subsequent television adaptation. In recent endeavors, Santaolalla continues his prolific output, having adapted his music for the second season of *The Last of Us* TV series, slated for release in April 2025. He also wrapped the score for Rodrigo Prieto's feature directorial debut, *Pedro Páramo*, based on the landmark Mexican surrealist novel. A unique project saw him rescoring the 1931 Spanish-language *Dracula* film, which was performed live with the Los Angeles Opera orchestra in October 2024. He is touring his influential 1998 solo album *Ronroco* in Europe and is working on the score for *Deliver Me From Nowhere*, a Bruce Springsteen biopic. In November 2023, he received the Latin Grammy Trustees Award. Additionally, the 25th-anniversary reissue of his album *Ronroco* was released in January 2024, and he has ventured into fragrance design and collaborated with Fender to create the custom "Guitarocko" instrument.
