God Is An Astronaut is an Irish instrumental post-rock band, formed in 2002 by twin brothers Torsten and Niels Kinsella, with drummer Lloyd Hanney completing the trio. Known for their distinctive sonic tapestry, they blend atmospheric soundscapes with powerful crescendos, incorporating elements of post-rock, space rock, math rock, electronic music, krautrock, and more recently, psychedelia. Their latest studio album, "Embers," was released on September 6, 2024, via Napalm Records. This eleventh studio album is described as their most extensive production to date, featuring intricate layers, deeply emotional compositions, and new facets like Middle-Eastern influences and sitar, honoring the Kinsella brothers' late father. God Is An Astronaut has an active touring schedule. They have announced a European tour for March 2026, with dates in cities like Dublin, Bochum, Utrecht, and Munich. Their tour dates extend into June 2026, including an appearance at Hellfest 2026. Recently, in February 2026, their scheduled concerts in Istanbul, Turkey, were unfortunately postponed due to circumstances beyond their control, amidst a controversial ban on rock bands accused of "Satanism" in the country. The band, being instrumental, firmly rejected any such suggestions and expressed their disappointment.
