About Ghostpoet

Spoken word

Ghostpoet, born Obaro Ejimiwe, is a British vocalist, songwriter, and musician known for his distinctive blend of spoken word, trip hop, electronica, experimental hip-hop, alt-rock, and art-pop. His music often features a sublimely expressive voice delivering dark and socially conscious lyrics that explore personal introspection and societal unease. He has released five critically acclaimed albums, with two, "Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam" (2011) and "Shedding Skin" (2015), earning Mercury Prize nominations. In his latest endeavors, Ejimiwe has expanded his artistic practice beyond music since 2021, delving into sound art, sculpture, installation, photography, and video, with a focus on themes of African spiritualism, masculinity, identity, and Black joy. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Art from Coventry University in November 2022. In 2023, he contributed to a new version of Massive Attack's "Paradise Circus" for the film *Luther: The Fallen Sun*. Most recently, in May 2024, Ghostpoet released his third EP, 'Am I the Change I Wish to See?', on his independent label Modern Revenge Records, and composed music for the short film *Ataraxy 33*. He is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
