About Faraj Suleiman

Faraj Suleiman is a Palestinian composer and jazz pianist known for his innovative blend of Arabic melodies, eastern rhythms, jazz, rock, and classical music. His compositions often incorporate traditional Arabic scales and modalities, creating a distinctive sound that appeals to both Eastern and Western audiences. Currently based in Paris, where he has held a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Suleiman maintains a busy schedule of performances at major festivals across Europe and the Middle East. His latest album, 'Maryam', released in 2025, represents a notable shift in his work, featuring experimental vocal performances and a tone shaped by the realities of the war on Gaza. In 2023, he released the instrumental album "As Much As It Takes," which chronicles a musician's journey to bring his music to the global stage. Beyond his albums, Suleiman has a diverse portfolio, composing music for theatre and film, and has previously collaborated with artists like Banksy on the "Walled-off Hotel" project in Bethlehem. He has also explored crowdfunding for his projects, such as the 2019 album "Second Verse", which was his first to feature his own vocals. His work often reflects his Palestinian identity, and in 2021, he was notably summoned for questioning by Israeli police, though the reason was not disclosed.
