EQ live history: electroclash • neoperreo
EQ is a Buenos Aires-based duo formed by artist-producers Estratosfera (Laura Ferreira) and Qiri (Candela Mattera), who have been collaborating since 2021. They are known for their distinctive sound, which blends electroclash, neoperreo, and industrial club electronica with a "signature bubblegum sound" and "electrocrushed PC-inspired tracks". Their music often incorporates reggaeton rhythms alongside gritty, abrasive industrial beats, creating a dance-focused yet experimental aesthetic. Neoperreo, a genre they embody, is an underground, internet-driven alternative to mainstream reggaetón that emphasizes raw production, dembow-derived rhythms, and experimental electronic influences, often prioritizing feminist and LGBTQ+ voices. Their latest endeavors include the release of their eponymous debut EP, *EQ*, around September 2025. This EP showcases their vision through tracks that combine chopped-up mixes, digital distortion, and often feature pitch-shifted feminine vocals and rough synthetic textures. They are also recognized for their "neo-Y2K visual aesthetics," which are integral to their identity and incorporate tongue-in-cheek motifs and Noughties-adjacent flash photography, symbolizing an optimistic view of early internet culture. Their work aims to translate the localized dance scene in Buenos Aires to a global audience.
