Entropies are a London-based cinematic musical project that documents human stories through live sound and moving image. Their music is described as a fusion of ambient pop and neo-classical genres, incorporating vocals, keys, violin, cello, and percussion. Influenced by artists like Portishead, Max Richter, and Hania Rani, as well as folk sounds, their work often features songwriting in both Turkish and English, along with traditional percussion instruments such as the darbuka. Fronted by British-Turkish-Iranian vocalist and director Sheida Kiran, Entropies adapt scores composed for Kiran's BBC documentary films and combine them with new writing. Their latest endeavors include the upcoming release of their debut EP, 'The Harvest,' in 2025, which tells the stories of female tea pickers on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. In 2024, they completed a sold-out mini-tour in London and Cambridge for their project 'Songs For Our Land,' which partnered with the BBC Our World documentary 'Turkey's Earthquake: Those Who Stayed.' Entropies scored and recorded the soundtrack for this documentary, which was broadcast on February 3, 2024. They also scored the BBC Our World film "Harvesting Our Tea." The band has been featured on BBC Music Introducing and Radio X's 'X-Posure' show with John Kennedy and has performed with partners such as Fujifilm, Channel 4, and Sofar Sounds. They are supported by Help Musicians and the Bert Jansch Foundation.
