About El Kanka

El Kanka, whose real name is Juan Gómez Canca, is a Spanish singer-songwriter, composer, and musician from Málaga, born in 1982. He is recognized for his unique "cantautorato" style, blending rumba, folk, pop, blues, reggae, and other rhythms with fresh, ironic, and heartfelt lyrics that offer humor, tenderness, and reflections on everyday life. He began his solo career in 2007 after being part of the group Doctor Desastre (later T de Trapo), and has since become one of the most acclaimed figures in the new generation of Spanish singer-songwriters, gaining significant recognition both in Spain and internationally. Regarding his latest endeavors, El Kanka released an acoustic album titled "Las Canciones" in March 2025, featuring re-recorded iconic tracks and one new song, "Los soñadores," presented primarily with just guitar and voice. He is preparing to release his seventh album, "La Calma," in early 2026. This upcoming work includes ten new songs that fuse rumba, bolero, and pop, with the single "La Calma" (released in November 2025) and "La apuesta" (released in December 2025) serving as precursors to a more introspective and luminous phase that champions serenity. El Kanka embarked on an acoustic tour, also named "Las Canciones," in the spring of 2025, and has upcoming tour dates scheduled throughout 2026 in various cities across Spain. He also participated as an advisor to Rosario in "La Voz Kids" in June 2024.
