About the artist

Latina

Descemer Bueno is a Cuban singer, musician, composer, and producer, recognized for his significant contributions across diverse Latin genres including jazz, hip hop, bachata, Latin pop, and urban music. Born in Havana in 1971, he began his career playing bass for Santiago Feliú and later co-founded the jazz combo Estado de Animo and the Cuban Latin fusion band Yerba Buena. He rose to international prominence through his solo work and as a prolific songwriter, co-writing major hits such as "Bailando" and "Cuando Me Enamoro" for artists like Enrique Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra, earning multiple Latin Grammys. Bueno also composed music for films, including the award-winning soundtrack for "Habana Blues" (2005). In recent endeavors, Descemer Bueno has continued to release new music, with several singles appearing on Apple Music in 2025, including "Encontrarnos Otra Vez," "El Arco De La Bondad," and "MADRID." He was reportedly working on two new albums as of 2022, featuring collaborations with artists from Mexico and Spain. In 2019, he collaborated with Argentine artist Ulises Bueno on "Eres mi peque." Bueno has been an outspoken critic of the Cuban government, using his platforms to denounce repression, poverty, and the lack of freedoms, which has led to him residing in the United States and being unable to visit his ill mother in Cuba. Despite this, he announced an intention to return to Cuba to help victims and celebrated a Premio Lo Nuestro nomination for his song "Nos Fuimos Lejos." In 2025, he also engaged in a public defense of fellow artist El Chacal against criticisms from a producer, sparking debate within the Cuban music community. He has publicly apologized for what he calls his "political ignorance" but maintains his focus as a musician rather than a political activist.
