Cairokee is a pioneering Egyptian alternative rock band formed in Cairo in 2003, blending genres such as Egyptian pop, Egyptian hip hop, Arabic hip hop, and mahraganat with rock, reggae, and electronic elements. The band, consisting of Amir Eid (vocals, guitar), Sherif Hawary (lead guitar), Tamer Hashem (drums), Adam El-Alfy (bass), and Sherif Mostafa (keyboards), gained widespread recognition following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution for their politically-inspired lyrics and protest songs like "Sout El Horeya" (Voice of Freedom) and "Ya El Midan" (featuring Aida el Ayoubi). Their music, known for its energetic guitar riffs and dynamic rhythms, often engages with social and political themes, reflecting the spirit of Cairo. In recent endeavors, Cairokee released their album "Roma" in September 2022, marking a shift to a more personal and introspective sound with collaborations from artists like Marwan Pablo and Sara Moullablad. This was followed by a significant international tour in Europe and the U.S. They also released the album "Telk Qadeya" in 2023. More recently, in December 2023, the band launched a new single titled "Telk Qadeya" (This Cause), expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and critiquing perceived international double standards. Lead vocalist Amir Eid also participated in "Rajieen" (We Are Coming Back), a collaborative song featuring 25 artists from the Middle East and North Africa in support of the Palestinian people. Cairokee continues to be active with concerts, including a planned 2024 North American tour and performances in Jordan.
