About Buika

Buika is a Spanish singer, poet, composer, and music producer known for her powerful and raspy voice, which seamlessly blends flamenco, Latin jazz, and fado with influences from soul, pop, African polyrhythm, copla, and blues. Born María Concepción Balboa Buika in Palma de Mallorca to political exiles from Equatorial Guinea, her music reflects a cosmopolitanism developed from her upbringing and early career experiences, including a stint as a Tina Turner impersonator in Las Vegas. In her latest endeavors, Buika was a judge on Operación Triunfo 2023, and collaborated with Kiko Navarro on a remix of "Soñando Contigo" in November 2023. She has also published a second book of poetry and is reportedly working on a novel, an opera, and an exhibit showcasing her photography and her son's artwork. Throughout her career, Buika has been critically acclaimed, with albums like *Niña de Fuego* and *La Noche Más Larga* receiving Latin Grammy nominations, and *El Último Trago* winning a Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album.
